Sedation Dentistry

If the thought of going to the dentist makes you nervous, you aren’t alone. Millions of Americans feel apprehensive before their dental appointment! In fact, it’s so common that there’s a term for it: dental anxiety.

If you experience dental anxiety—whether that anxiety is mild, severe, or somewhere in between—you might benefit from our sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry is any type of dental medication designed to help patients relax and feel calm in the dentist’s chair and throughout their procedure.

At our office, we are pleased to be able to offer laughing gas for anyone that might need a little help feeling comfortable during their appointment. Whether you’re coming in for a significant procedure or just a cleaning, we want to make sure you’re as happy as possible during your visit here.

What Is Laughing Gas?

Laughing gas is an extremely useful method of sedation dentistry that can relax most nervous or fearful patients. This gas has a naturally relaxing quality that will ease any tension you might be feeling.

The Laughing Gas Procedure:

  • A patient receiving laughing gas will wear a small mask over their nose throughout their treatment.
  • You will then breathe the laughing gas in through this mask at a steady pace throughout your dental procedure. The gas will take effect almost immediately as you breathe it in.
  • You’ll remain awake, although you might feel sleepy or distracted—and you may even forget some of the details of your treatment.

Another benefit of laughing gas is that the effects wear off quickly once the mask is removed. This means you won’t experience any lasting fogginess or long-term effects. In fact, you can even drive yourself home as soon as your visit to our office is finished.
